Lighting Design & Consultations in Albury-Wodonga
Lighting Bonanza is an independent, locally owned lighting and ceiling fan showroom on the corner of Dean and David Streets, Albury, with in-house lighting consultants who help you plan the lighting for a new home, renovation or single room. Bring in your house plans or photos and our team will work through each room with you, then put together a lighting and fan selection you can hand to your electrician.
What does a lighting consultant actually do?
A lighting consultant helps you decide what light goes where, how bright it should be, what colour it should be and how it will be switched. The goal is a home that works at night: enough light to cook and read, softer light for relaxing, and fittings that suit the style of each room.
At Lighting Bonanza our consultants do this every day on the showroom floor. The store has been helping Albury-Wodonga homes for more than 25 years, and because we deal with over 150 suppliers we are not trying to fit your home around a single brand's catalogue. We can show you real fittings, lit and running, so you are not choosing from a thumbnail on a screen.
How does a lighting consultation work?
Most consultations follow the same simple path. The more information you bring, the more useful the first visit will be.
- Get in touch: call 02 6021 8814 or send an enquiry so we know what you are working on and can set aside time.
- Bring your plans: builder's plans, an electrical plan if you have one, room measurements, ceiling heights and photos of the space all help.
- Walk through the house room by room: we talk about how you use each space, then look at downlights, pendants, wall lights, fans, bathroom heaters and outdoor lighting together.
- See it in the showroom: with more than 2,000 lights and fans on display, you can compare sizes, finishes, light colour and fan noise in person.
- Get your selection in writing: we put your chosen fittings together so your electrician and builder know exactly what is going in and where.
- Order: anything that is not on the showroom floor can be ordered through the more than 150 suppliers we deal with.
What can we help you plan?
Our consultants help with whole houses and with single rooms. Common jobs include:
- New builds: a full lighting and ceiling fan package planned from your plans before the electrician's rough-in.
- Renovations: replacing old fittings, adding downlights or pendants, and making sure new and existing lights match in colour.
- Kitchens and islands: pendant size, drop height and spacing, plus task lighting over benches.
- Bathrooms: 3-in-1 heat, light and exhaust units, vanity lighting and IP ratings for wet areas.
- Living areas and bedrooms: ceiling fan sizing, fans with lights, feature pendants and lamps.
- Alfresco and outdoor areas: weather-rated outdoor fans, outdoor heat units, wall lights and sensor lights.
- Colour temperature and dimming: warm white versus cool white, tricolour LEDs and dimmer compatibility.
- Smart lighting: smart globes and fans with app or remote control.
Who will help you?
You will be dealing with the people who run the store. Bree and Daniel own Lighting Bonanza, having taken over in September 2026, and Lynette and Leeanne are our lighting consultants. The store has been serving Albury-Wodonga for more than 25 years.
Customers often mention the team by name in their reviews. One wrote that Leeanne was 'incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely helpful' with 'no hard sell'. Another described Lynette as 'so friendly and helpful she answered all my annoying questions'. You can read more about each of them on our team page.
Do you work with my builder and electrician?
Yes. We work with most local electricians and builders around Albury-Wodonga, so we are used to fitting in with a build schedule. A clear list of fittings, room by room, makes the electrician's job easier and reduces the chance of the wrong fitting ending up in the wrong spot.
We supply the lights and fans; installation is done by your licensed electrician. If your builder has given you a lighting allowance, bring it in and we will work within it, showing you where it is worth spending more and where a simpler fitting does the job.
Why plan your lighting before the electrician starts?
Lighting is cheap to change on paper and expensive to change once the plaster is up. Deciding early means cabling, switch positions, ceiling fan bracing and exhaust ducting can all go in at the right stage. It also stops common problems such as a pendant that ends up off-centre over the island, a fan that is too small for an open-plan room, or a mix of warm and cool white downlights in the same space.
If you are early in the process, our new home lighting checklist is a good place to start before you come in.
Where do consultations happen?
Consultations happen in our showroom on the corner of Dean and David Streets, Albury NSW 2640, where you can see the fittings in person. We are open Monday to Wednesday 9am to 5pm, Thursday 9am to 6pm, Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to book a lighting consultation?
It helps. Calling 02 6021 8814 or sending an enquiry first lets us set aside time for your project, especially for a whole house. For a single room you are welcome to come into the showroom during opening hours.
What should I bring to a lighting consultation?
Bring your house or renovation plans, any electrical plan from your builder, room sizes, ceiling heights and photos of the space. If you have a builder's lighting allowance, bring that too.
Do you install the lights?
No, we supply the lights and fans and your licensed electrician installs them. We work with most local electricians and builders, so we can fit in with the one you are using.
Can you help with just one room?
Yes. Many consultations are for a single kitchen, bathroom, alfresco area or living room. The same advice on sizing, placement and colour temperature applies.
Can I see the lights before I choose?
Yes. We have more than 2,000 lights and fans on display in our Albury showroom, with pendants hung and lit and ceiling fans running, so you can compare them in person.
Do you only recommend one brand?
No. As an independent store we deal with over 150 suppliers, so we recommend the fitting that suits the room and your budget rather than a single brand.
