When should a lamp be repaired?
Stop using a lamp and have it checked if you notice any of these signs. Cords, switches and lamp holders wear out with years of use, and a worn part can overheat.
- The cord is frayed, cracked, kinked or feels warm.
- The plug is loose, cracked or has scorch marks.
- The switch crackles, sticks or only works in one position.
- The light flickers or cuts out when you move the lamp or touch the cord.
- The lamp holder is loose, cracked or discoloured.
- You feel a tingle when you touch the lamp.

Is it worth repairing a lamp?
Often, yes. A good lamp base can outlast several cords and switches, and a $50 repair usually costs less than replacing it with a lamp of the same quality. It's also the only way to keep a lamp with sentimental value, such as a family piece or a vintage find.
If the base itself is broken, or a new lamp makes more sense, we have more than 400 table, floor and desk lamps in our range, plus replacement lamp shades and globes.
Can old and antique lamps be rewired?
Usually. Many older lamps, including leadlight lamps, brass and timber floor lamps and ceramic table lamps, can be rewired with a new cord, plug, switch and lamp holder while keeping their original look. Bring the lamp in, or send a photo with the form, and we'll tell you what it needs.
